On-screen, celebrities play dramatic roles and you find yourself awestruck as you watch them move around gracefully. But little do you know about what goes on behind the scenes. Have you ever thought about what goes on in the lives of the celebrities that you so very much look up to? Ever thought about if they're just as badass in real life as they are on TV? Well, take a look below at the X famous celebrities who literally kicked cancer in the ass and proved that they really are badass:

Runnin' From Robert De Niro

Nothing can defeat the Great Godfather, not even cancer! De Niro suffered from Prostate Cancer. Diagnosed in 2003 at the age of 60, the tough role player kicked cancer's ass so hard cancer literally ran away from him. As of now, aged 73 and completely cancer free, De Niro is kicking some butts and you can clearly see that in his upcoming movie The Irishman.

Whew, Hugh Jackman

As if the Wolverine's sharp blades weren't enough to scare away the enemies, one of the fools we call cancer decided to combat against Jackman. And the outcome? Well, just like every other battle, Hugh Jackman, aged 48, is still en-route to winning the battle against skin cancer. And by the looks of it, the odds are in his favor.

Kathy Bates can't be defeated

Misery's main lead, Katy Bates was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in the later quarter of 2003. Like a Knight, she chose to keep her war private and fought ceaselessly until she kicked cancer out and in the ass. Katy Bates confessed about her disease back in 2009 and ever since, she has remained healthy and well.

And, Christina Applegate

You might have known her for her mean-girl roles in movies like Bad Moms but the Hollywood sweetheart, Christina Applegate had it tough. Around the age of 36, she learned about her breast cancer when she was recommended to get an MRI. But the badass- definitely not a Bad Mom, got a double mastectomy and kicked cancer right in the ass!

Lance Armstrong redefining strength

The Armstrong Life's main hero redefined the very essence of strength when he discovered his testicular cancer back in the October of 1996. After a yearlong of chemo-therapy, he was finally claimed to be entirely cancer-free. Soon after, Lance Armstrong initiated his invigorating "Livestrong" campaign, a cancer awareness program and helps more victims fight their battles.

Known for sharing an undeniable chemistry with John Travolta on-screen, Olivia Newton-John underwent some serious crisis behind the scenes. Back in 1992, Olivia was diagnosed with breast cancer that startled her and her family. But being the kickass she is, she combated the disease with all her might and today at the age of 68, she is cancer free and young at heart.

Back in the beginning of 2006, Sex and the City's Miranda, Cynthia Nixon discovered the fact that she was in fact a victim of breast cancer. For the longest of times, she kept this war within her chest, fighting in silence and only after she kicked cancer's ass out of her system did she come out on the Good Morning America show.

Yet, brave-hearted star flung off the cancer quite artfully after bravely undergoing radical hysterectomy and as of to this date, she has remained cancer free for over a decade.

Cybill Shepherd the brightest in the flock

As a young teenager, Cybill Shepherd sun bathed more often than not. Years later, back in 2002, she was diagnosed with skin cancer known as melanoma. Although now clean and cancer free for several years, Cybill takes it as a moral duty to advocate for skin cancer awareness.

In the early-to-middle stages of the disease, the star underwent chemotherapy and emerged completely recovered from the disease. In Janis Jolphin's Grammy's performance of "Piece of My Heart" the now bald star appeared publicly for the first time.

Suzanne Somers stood by her motto of natural cure and said no to chemotherapy when she was discovered with breast cancer at a particular point in her life. Suzanne opted for radiation, surgery, and natural and holistic treatments. Today, she has long been done and dusted with cancer.

Remember Mr. West's famous saying, "What doesn't kill you only makes you stronger!" Don't let yourself down by losing hope when there is so much to look forward to in life.
