Often we think we are in love but it later turns out that it was just a fleeting phase. True love is different than just being infatuated with someone but it is hard to know which is which, since infatuation at the beginning feels just like true love. However there are definitely many differences between both and it is easy to see which is which once you know these 15 differences.

True love doesn't mean spending all the time with them

When you are infatuated with someone you just want to be with them for as much time as possible. All the time you spend without them seems wasted. In true love you don't need to be near them - just the thought of them puts a smile on your face.

True love means helping the other person be better

When you truly love someone and aren't just infatuated with them, you want to help them be better. You don't just like them the way they are, you also see what they can be, because you can see how great their core personality and beliefs are.

True love makes life easier

When you are infatuated with someone life is hard. You spend lots of time thinking about them feeling bad that they aren't with you. However, true love is the opposite. It gives your life purpose and makes you stronger and braver.

Love has routine

When you are infatuated with someone you want to keep doing new things with them. When you truly love someone you fall into a routine. Since you truly love them, things being routine don't matter, because you are doing them with a person you love.

True love means seeing the other person's fault as well

When we are infatuated the person we are infatuated with seems perfect. They can do no wrong. True love means truly knowing a person, their strengths and their faults. It means loving them despite or even because of their faults.

Things just work when it is true love

True love makes you feel powerful and things just seem to go away. When you are truly in love with someone problems don't affect you as much, because you have someone by your side who truly makes your life better.

You understand what meeting 'the one' means

When you really fall in love all romantic movies begin to make perfect sense. Because the feeling of true love is indeed as magical and powerful as they show in sappy romance movies. You just understand that this is the one person meant to be your soul mate.

You don't love them for who they are, not what they do for you

If you love someone because they are good to you, you just love what they do for you. True love means loving someone for who they are. You look at the way they treat other people in their life and it just makes you love them even more.

It isn't hard to make things work

Despite what edgy romantic books may like to tell you, true love isn't hard. It isn't hard to make a relationship work when the love is real. When the love is real both parties want to be with each other, and thus they don't make things hard for each other.

They're the first person you want to talk to

When you truly love someone they are always the first person you want to talk to whenever any major event in your life happens. This is because they are the most important person for you in the world and you want to share everything with them.

They inspire you to be better

When you truly love someone you become a better person. You feel good about being in love which makes you jovial and friendly, and you start being kind to the people around you. True love will make you a more positive person.

They make you feel good

When you are infatuated with someone you are always trying to impress them or make sure they stay interested. When it is true love they will make you feel good about who you are, instead of requiring you to do stuff which will make them appreciate you.

You make sacrifices for each other, without needing to be asked to

When two people are in love, they will make sacrifices for each other. If it is just infatuation, then the sacrifice will be hard to make, and sometimes there may even be arguments about it. In true love there is no hesitation in choosing you over the other thing.

True love lasts long

Infatuation lasts for a few months. True love, however, ends up lasting forever. True love lasts even if you aren't able to be with the person you are in love with - you'll have positive feelings for them for the rest of your life.
