Actor Seth Rogen Launches Marijuana Company

What is it that you know about your favorite stars? A good way to make it in Hollywood is to have something recognizable about yourself that everyone can latch onto. If people can’t remember your gorgeous face, then at least they’ll remember that you’re the person who always brings a live lobster to an award show.

Perhaps my example above is a little too out there, but celebrities can be out there as well. They have to wrestle with their own hobbies and interests while being in the public eye. Anything they do becomes public knowledge and begins to shape their persona, like an actor becoming an activist.

When we think of actors with certain quirks, there is one that comes to mind when we think of the quirk of smoking marijuana. I’m talking about America’s favorite funny man, Seth Rogen. Since his break-out in Freaks and Geeks, he has been the marijuana guy, now he has his own company.

Introducing Houseplant

If someone were to ask you what kind of company you’d expect Seth Rogen to launch, what would you guess? It would be pretty easy to guess a marijuana company given his history of enthusiasm towards the mind-altering plant. Your guess would be spot on because just recently, the multi-faceted entertainer announced that he would be starting his company, Houseplant, a marijuana company. You can guess what kind of houseplants Seth Rogen has around his house.

Seth Rogen posted a video on Twitter where he said, “Almost 10 years I go, I envisioned having my own weed company. And today I can say that my company Houseplant's weed will be available in California next week!” The company will sell other things like lighters, ashtrays, and if you’ve been following Rogen’s love of ceramics during the quarantine, ceramics as well.

10 Years in the Making

Marijuana has become serious business in the last decade as more states allow for medical and recreational use. On Saturday, Virginia passed a law legalizing adult marijuana use in 2024. That makes a total of 15 states that do, or will, allow marijuana use. We often see celebrities start a business in a sector that they love, so it is no surprise for Rogen to do this venture. What is surprising is how long it has taken him. He says it has taken a decade.

There’s a long list of cannabis-positive celebs who have ventured into selling the magical green herb, including Tommy Chong, Rick Ross, Jay-Z, Bella Thorne, and Snoop Dogg. When fans know that a celebrity partakes in smoking marijauan, they are more willing to try the celebrity’s brand, even if that would otherwise feel like someone just trying to make a cash grab.

More than Just Marijuana

What is it that makes Seth Rogen’s Houseplant company so special and different from other marijuana companies? It is the man himself that adds so much to the company. If you trust his taste, you can trust his brand, according to him. In his video, he says, “If you know anything about me at all, I’m going to assume that it’s: I really love weed. What we’re doing is bringing you the best strains of weed that have been hand-picked, and by that I mean hand-smoked by me. It’s just the weed that I love that I want to be smoking.”

The company also offers vinyl sets that accompany each of the strains, pairing music with marijuana. Seth himself is an avid smoker. He has been on record saying he has smoked every day for the past 20 years. If anyone knows their stuff, it’s him. In fact, the website went down for a while due to too much traffic.
