Every year, pilgrims from the whole world travel to Kyaiktiyo Pagoda, a well-known Buddhist template and pilgrimage site. The place is also known as the Golden Rock, due to the golden-colored boulder upon which the small pagoda is built on. According to ancient legends, the Golden Rock is perched on a strand of the Buddha's hair - meaning the Buddha is actually the whole world.
The those looking from the sides of the rock, it appears that the rock is defying gravity, as it looks like it is on the verge of rolling down the hill, yet that has never happened. At the moment, since the temple is for male-only pilgrims, women are not allowed the visit the inner sanctuary. Women can visit the sanctuary, but only the area that hosts the outer balcony and the lower courtyard.
