M*A*S*H was a very peculiar and interesting show. It lasted over a decade from 1972 to 1983 and centered around the Korean War. Oddly enough, it is a comedy-drama. You don't see a lot of comedies about war time, but M*A*S*H certainly nailed it. The show took place at an Army hospital base and was about the lives of the team of doctors on the base. It was mostly a comedic show, but being about war, it often strayed into very serious issues. The laughter was a great way to explore some of the more serious social matters inherent in war.
The show thrived during the time of the Vietnam War. You might think that people would want to avoid war shows at the time, but the tone of the show was so good that it became a welcome relief.
