The black comedy actually featured McGregor in a number of roles due to its unusual plot, but the most significant of them was the title role of Phillip Morris himself.
McGregor had to get into the mind and persona of not just one gay man but several, as a number of his other parts in the film were as gay and bisexual characters. Despite being married to wife Eve since the mid-1990s, McGregor seemed to take to the parts swimmingly, managing to imbue each of the different parts with its own personality and never appearing to be less than convincing in any of them.
