Who knew that "Star Trek: The Next Generation" was a launching pad for successful young actresses in the 1990s? Here's the second entrant on our list who made her first major appearance in the show way back in 1991. This progressed to a starring role in "Sisters" from 1991 through to 1994, by which time she was beginning to establish herself as a movie star.
Starting with "Ruby in Paradise" and moving on to a succession of major roles which have brought her more awards than we could count, in recent years she's taken a strong interest in social and political affairs. As well as being a Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations, she's spoken out repeatedly on gender equality issues, and was one of the first women to publicly name disgraced producer Harvey Weinstein as an abuser, making her a spearhead of the #MeToo movement.
