There is a region in Turkey called Cappadocia, which is littered with what people call "fairy chimneys." In reality, these are simple rock formations, but the view they give is spectacular, which is why people have assigned different kinds of magical meanings to the place. The place also has a remarkable history - for example, the rocks themselves were created in a volcanic eruption, but they got their final shape due to wind and rain erosion.
The region was also used during the medieval era, as a refuge for Byzantine Christians. The views offered here are amazing - even beginners photographers would be hard-pressed to find a bad angle to take a photo. Since the Byzantine refugees spent a lot of time in the area, they also built monastic settlements and cave churches, which you can visit and explore today.
