The buildup issues around Bethel began five entire days before the festival even began. Parked and abandoned vehicles sat fender to fender in every direction from the farm for a distance of twenty entire miles. Local residents couldn't get in or out of their own town. Performers had to get as close as they could and were then brought in by helicopter.
And then, when all's said and done, there's the issue of how to get out. Could you remember where you put your car if you'd abandoned it in an unfamiliar area, and then spent the next three days drinking and taking drugs? Also, a lot of hippies drove the same vehicle. 'Hey buddy, have you seen my car? It's a Volkswagen bus and it's...oh. I see the problem'.
