None of us particularly look forward to old age, or becoming weaker, or losing our independence. More than that, we fear the loss of those close to us. We don't know anything about them and we don't need to; it's a visual symbol of the eternal nature of love, and how once it unites us, time can never come to divide us unless we allow it.
