If you have a child, and a pet, you'll understand this picture immediately. You may even have once been a child and grew up with a new pet in the house, and you understand the bond that forms between children and animals of a certain age. When babies are very young - and pets are too - it's almost like they don't understand that they're different to each other. They grow with each other and learn from each other, and develop a close, protective relationship. Animals seem to know that babies are different from full grown adults and take extra care around them.
