Jane Austen's famous 1813 novel, Pride and Prejudice, has had such long-lasting popularity that several movies, television series, and modern adaptations have been created. It seems the audience just can't get enough of Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy and we're totally part of that group, too. We love settling in for a bit of old timey English romance.
The first Pride and Prejudice film was released in 1940 and starred Greer Garson as Elizabeth Bennet and Laurence Olivier as Mr. Darcy. The film was well received, but actually lost money at the box office. Since then, a mini-series (starring Colin Firth as Mr. Darcy) and another movie (starring Keira Knightly as Elizabeth) have been filmed. Another awesome chick flick, Bridget Jones's Diary (starring Renee Zellweger), is actually a modern adaptation of the novel, which not everybody realizes. It even stars Colin Firth as Mr. Darcy!
