You might not instantly recognize her name, but Mayim Bialik has been steadily working away since she was a child. She scored her first role in a film in 1988's Pumpkinhead and has only moved up from there. In the same year, she appeared in the blockbuster hit, Beaches, as Bette Midler's character as a young girl. Things really took off for Bialik when she landed the role of the title character on the sitcom, Blossom, in 1990.
Most people don't know that Bialik is also a neuroscientist. Funnily enough, she now plays one on the comedy series, The Big Bang Theory. She initially appeared on the show as Amy Farrah Fowler-Cooper, a love interest for one of the main characters. But she soon became part of the main cast and has since been nominated for four Primetime Emmy Awards.
