The news does it all the time, whether that's outright lying, or lies by omission. Both sides do it. When it's someone on the other team though, we all act like we've uncovered some deeper truth. Bill Clinton lied? All Democrats lie! Trump lies every single day twenty times a day? All Republicans lie.
