Being a celebrity under the scrutiny of the public eye is no easy task. Sure, celebrities have millions of dollars as well as the love and adoration of millions, but if anything is to go wrong in their lives, everyone knows about it. You are living a life under a microscope.

Under that microscope we can see celebrities going through the hardest of challenges: addiction, divorce, or mental health issues. While many will give their sympathy, there are always those who will have something smart to say about it. It can make it hard to want to face people again.

Carrie Underwood went through her own recent challenges after she fell down the steps of her Nashville home. The accident left her with a huge facial scar. As a star known for her beauty, the injury was incredibly worrying. Carrie herself was unsure how she would recover, but this new picture shows her confidence radiating through.

The Accident

It can be tragic news for anyone to get an injury, but that can be especially true when your livelihood relies on the part you injured. Carrie Underwood is a fantastic singer and actress, but it can be hard to have confidence after an injury leaves you scarred. That's exactly how Carrie Underwood felt after her injury in 2017. She was required to get 50 stitches, along with a broken wrist after she fell in front of her home.

Underwood spoke with Redbook and said, "Any time someone gets injured, it looks pretty bad in the beginning, and you're like, 'What is this going to wind up like?' You just don't know. It was also a perception thing, because I look at myself [now] and I see it quite a bit, but other people are like, 'I wouldn't have even noticed.'"

She showed off the scar in an instagram selfie

Carrie Underwood was worried that her scar would be a huge focal point for everyone. As it turned out, that was mostly her fear talking. "Nobody else looks at you as much as you think they do. Nobody notices as much as you think they will, so that's been nice to learn." For Carrie, however, she thinks she looks different than before. She stayed away from the spotlight for some time following the accident. Just recently she posted the instagram selfie from her music video set, as you can see from the pictures.

According to Underwood, there were personal reasons that kept her out of the spotlight a well. "There were some personal things that happened. And I had the accident and all of that to get through ... and just life. Life is full of ups and downs, and I might have had a few more downs than ups last year."

Rumors and aftermath

It wouldn't be a Hollywood story without a good rumor or two. Carrie's scar and disappearance from the limelight spawned its own rumor. One of the more prominent theories was that Carrie had gotten bad plastic surgery that she was trying to cover up by using the scar story. It certainly sounds more believable than falling down your own porch. Carrie confirmed that the story was interesting, but it wasn't the case. "It's a little sad, because the truth is just as interesting. I wish I'd gotten some awesome plastic surgery to make this [scar] look better."

She's been busy with her personal life. She's currently expecting a child with her husband Mike Fisher. This will be their second child together. Hopefully her confidence in the face of adversity helps and inspires others not to feel shame for their appearance.
