There's a shockingly simple reason for that: the town of Dulce, New Mexico, is considered by most to be the real Area 51. Basically, this is the best bet we have for a secret alien base.
On the surface, the town - the name Dulce means "sweet" in Spanish, by the way - is like any other dusty border town with a population of just under 3,000. It's actually the tribal headquarters for the Jicarilla Apache Reservation, and the majority of the townsfolk are Native American.
