Chaka Khan

You can't talk about funk music without talking about Chaka Khan. She was the queen of funk. She was the lead singer for a group called Rufus in the 1970s. Rufus did incredibly well. They had four gold albums, two platinum albums, and four gold singles. Of course, that is back when people were actually buying music. Oh, how the times have changed. It is getting harder for musicians to make money, but I don't feel too bad about that. I still see musicians buying mansions, so they can't be doing that badly.

Chaka Khan's song, “I'm every woman” is one that most people know because it has been used in TV, movies, and commercials for decades. It was the theme song for the Oprah Winfrey show for many years, which is where I remember first hearing it. My mom would watch Oprah and I would gleefully sing along to the theme song.
